A Day in August ~ Dolphins

Ocean waters hug at my feet and legs,
pull me into the ocean.
The waves tease–
as I edge away, I tease back, hair flowing wild with the wind.
I stand there looking out at the vast ocean,
lost in my thoughts that are blank and serene.
The waves crash upon the shore, run like white horses.
I continue walking along,
feeling my feet with each step, secured in the wet sand.
And then, something catches my vision, out of the corner of my eye.
A fin. Two fins. Then three!
Then I see clearly, not too far from the shore,
a group of dolphins swimming along with the waves,
being playful with each other. I can't take my eyes from them,
and I think this is the first time they've been so close.
All the other beach goers close in, cameras in hand.
We all watch in awe as the dolphins swim on by.

Carmel Beach on a Monday Morning

We took a weekend trip to Carmel to celebrate our one year anniversary together. Our weekend began on Sunday and ended on Tuesday. We both love the sleepiness of Carmel, the quaint fairy tale feel of it— and the ocean being right there.

I wanted to take a piece of the ocean back with me.

I noticed I’ve been recording videos on my iPod Touch here and there. The snippets are starting to collect, and naturally I decided that it was time to open a YouTube account to make it easier to upload and share.

This video is just a small clip of Carmel Beach on Monday morning. The Crow always finds me, as you will see at the end there. He was rather friendly and seemed to enjoy being close to us. I found him to be quite beautiful. The big white dog caught my attention too. You can’t hear it in the video, but each time he walked by, the sound of his clop, clop, squish, in the sand made me smile so wide.

A Good Day

This is just a beginning, to get me started. I’m still processing how I felt walking the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time. I’m not sure why I chose this picture, just a glimpse of the bridge, not even a glimpse—all ocean.

What stands out for me is waking from sleep slowly the morning after; with eyes still closed, I put myself there again and holding onto the bridge tight because looking down and imaging myself there looking down sent the butterfly feeling down into my tummy. I kept repeating the scene over and over, calling up the feeling of falling. I couldn’t do it while I was there because it was too close. This beginning may end here, but I hope that I am able to write more later about my visit. But this may very well be it. Bridge, ocean, wind, boats—a good day.

Nothing in Particular

4-7-11
4+7=11
4+7+11=22

Today is addition day, and I feel like I’m having a dejavu. Did I write about addition day on 4-6-10? I have a hunch I did, but I’m not going to look.

I hear people closing their car doors, getting ready for their days—cars passing—the sound travels up through the open window, conjuring images of the sea: A deep resonance gushes through a padded tube of silver and white glitter, folding and unfolding.

Busy season is upon the office again—tax season. It’s different this year for many reasons. It’s busy, but not as much as last year; or rather, it’s a different kind of busy and I’m in a different place, literally and figuratively. Although I like the mad rush sometimes, I will be glad when April 18 arrives. We will be able to let out a sigh of relief and take our usual reprieve the day after when the office closes.

Yesterday when I walked to the post office, I felt peace at the sight of the plum trees raining white blossoms, and of the breeze helping the yellow butterfly along. It was a treat to see that butterfly, since I had posted something about a butterfly that morning. It brought a smile to my face. I felt goose bumps down my arms and the sweet smell of Spring greeting my nose, and then the black bird streaked through the sky, right through the raining petals from the swaying tree.
