Morning Drive ~ The Trees

My mind starts thinking about things as I'm driving along and then I ground myself in the trees that are especially animated this morning, stretching their arms, like dancers, swaying to the music of the heavy breeze. I take my mind from tree to tree wondering what questions I have for them today, what wisdom do I seek this morning? But then I realize that just being there, fully present with the tees in this moment, allowing myself to surrender, right before my drive to work comes to an end is enough. They will speak again; I will listen.

I totally agree. Sometimes just "being" is enough...

The hardest thing there is: listening.

Yes...if only we could have more moments of "being," Keith. And it's always nice when we're caught by surprise and find ourselves swept away by these moments.

So true, Avy...listening is an art, it takes intention, eventually becoming a part of us.

Just as humans are the most evolved of oxygen breathing animals on the planet. Trees are the most evolved of plant life, some more than others such as oaks, chestnuts, pines, flowering trees like cherries and almonds I think. They are full of wisdom for sure and will share that wisdom once one learns to commune with them lovingly.

Hi Ashok, Nice to see you. I was over at your blog and was going to come back to comment...I will in a minute because you reminded me about something about almonds on your blog.

I have a partial backyard now and we have a couple of trees that have been here. We also bought two Japanese Maples because I've always admired them. But, it's what the seller referred to as a "generic" Japanese Maple. It's not the more expensive ones. Anyway, we still have to put them in the ground. Also, I took a photo of a tree that started growing on its own and showed it to a salesperson at the garden center. He said it was called Tree of Heaven. Have you heard of it? I really want to plant some bamboo, but I like the bamboo that can grow wild and out of control. I need to think about this one.

Trees are very magical creatures.

No Rebb I do not know about the tree of heaven but I do tend to leave trees that come up on their own unless they are really odd. Those are a gift from heaven. Delighted to hear that you have space for growing in the backyard. Try a small patch of spinach and another of celery if you fancy that. It is a delight to cut some fresh leaves fro a salad every now and then.

A tree of heaven is described here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ailanthus_altissima

Some regard it as a nuisance in a garden and it might really be more suitable for the forest or a park perhaps but I am not sure since I do not recall seeing this tree in real life.

I think it's a good idea to leave trees and other natural greenery to come up on their own. I've had a few weeds come up, but because they were weeds, I had to get rid of it, even though it looked like a nice plant. Maybe next season I'll try some veggies. That would be wonderful. Thanks for posting the link. I had looked it up, but thought I would check with you, since you know many trees.
